As the Cadillac SRX surged in popularity in 2011—with sales rising 18 percent—the luxury midsize sedan is gearing up for an ever bigger year, equipped with even bigger power.

The 2012 Cadillac SRX, set to debut in West Herr Cadillac‘s showroom in August, has undergone some serious powertrain revamping. An all-new 3.6L direct-injected V6 engine boasts 308 horsepower, replacing the 2011 model’s 3.0L engine with 265 horsepower.

The change makes the SRX the most powerful vehicle in its class, as far as standard engines go. And while the engine is bigger, it attains comparable fuel efficiency to its 2011 model. The more mass-efficiently designed engine includes an “eco” mode for fuel optimization, as well as a new six-speed transmission to help cut back on gas.

“We’re taking a winning product in the SRX and reaching higher,” said Don Butler, vice president of marketing for Cadillac. “The crossover category is one of the biggest and most important segments in the luxury market. SRX has performed very well and is the best selling Cadillac worldwide, but our approach is not to leave well enough alone.”
